The Johns Hopkins University Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) has an immediate opening for a Paralegal/Case Manager with a minimum of 5 years of general legal or equivalent experience in litigation or related case management, legal research, primarily in the areas of employment and EEO law, assisting in investigations and drafting correspondence, working closely with a team conducting investigations. The Office of Institutional Equity oversees the University's compliance with federal, state and local law has it relates to harassment, discrimination and affirmative action. The office is located on the Homewood campus in North Baltimore.
The Paralegal/Case Manager must take great pride in his/her work and possess the ability to meet stringent deadlines that are critical to the work of the Office of Institutional Equity. The Paralegal/Case Manager will support the Assistant Vice Provost/Title IX Coordinator and Equity Compliance Investigators with high level paralegal support and case management -ensuring timely communication and documentation in our case management systems of EEO and Title IX complaints; communicate with partners in Security and Student Affairs and the Office of General Counsel regarding cases under investigation; and communication with parties regarding case updates. Experience working with a case management system such as Advocate or Sharepoint is preferred.
/Support on Intake Matters/
Assist in complaint intake and preliminary assessments; familiarity with Title IX, employment and EEO case law and statutes and regulations affecting higher education a plus.
Ability to prepare chronologies and other analyses, and draft correspondence, case summaries, and briefing memos in support of equity compliance complaints.
/Support on Case Management/
In coordination with OIE's program coordinator, Student Affairs and Security, maintain equity compliance case management systems/databases
Communicate with equity compliance investigators regarding status of cases
Draft case-related correspondence with parties and witnesses.
Track workflow of complaints and requests for accommodations to be sure that they are processed in a timely manner.
Bachelor's Degree or certificate in Paralegal Studies from an accredited institution. Paralegal Certification preferred. Experience working on Title IX, EEO matters preferred. Five years of experience of progressively increasing responsibility are required. Additional experience may substitute for required education and additional education may substitute for experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Working in higher education helpful.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
