APTIM Legal Administrator in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Job Overview:

APTIM is currently searching for a Legal Administrator at its Baton Rouge, LA location. The Legal Administrator works together with APTIM's Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment and other attorneys who manage litigation at APTIM to investigate facts, to gather, review and organize responsive documents needed in litigation and agency discovery, to maintain accurate records of litigation matters, and to communicate clearly and accurately with business leaders, human resources professionals and other internal clients, outside counsel and governmental agencies regarding litigation.

The Legal Administrator is involved in implementing, overseeing, and managing the outcome of a variety of legal department projects (including matter management tools and litigation hold tools).

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Together with attorneys, conducts internal investigations, including document gathering and review, needed to respond to agency charges, employment litigation, and commercial litigation/insured matters.

  • Assists in implementing and manages APTIM's legal matter management tool, LawPoint 365.

  • Assists in implementing and manages APTIM's litigation hold process, working closely with the IT department and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepares strong, factually accurate case summaries, position statements, witness lists, legal hold memoranda, and other legal documents for use by internal and external attorneys in defending claims.

  • Assists with witness preparation for testimony and responding to formal discovery requests.

  • Interacts professionally with outside counsel, federal, state and local agencies, Human Resources professionals and other internal clients.

  • Conducts legal and factual research for in-house lawyers with respect to labor and employment and litigation matters.

  • Assists attorneys in preparation and delivery of training for internal clients.

  • Prepares litigation history reports for internal and external use.

  • Provides other support to attorneys with respect to litigation and administrative proceedings.

  • Works under the direction of an attorney to assess and resolve routine legal issues.

  • Responsible for calendaring, tracking, and meeting deadlines.

  • Works on special projects as requested.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • J.D. degree preferred.

  • Paralegal certification preferred.

  • 5-10 years of experience in litigation required. Law firm paralegal litigation experience strongly preferred.

  • Relies on extensive experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Must work independently and proactively to perform a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Works with minimal supervision/ guidance; accountable for individual results and impact on team. Works with others to achieve team goals.

  • Experience in discovery (including e-discovery) and case management functions.

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office 365 suite (particularly SharePoint and Excel); matter management software
