State Street has a position for a Senior Counsel and Vice President in our fast-growing Legal Administration department. A Senior Counsel has two primary functions – provide legal administration services to external clients and provide support to internal Fund Administration and the Legal Administration departments. He or she will generally have at least eight years of experience in servicing mutual fund clients.
A Senior Counsel bears ultimate responsibility for the delivery of quality legal administration services to his/her assigned clients and must be able to independently manage his/her client relationships effectively. Senior Counsels must be experts in 1940 Act issues and possess a highly developed understanding of not only the legal issues impacting mutual funds but also the business, regulatory, and compliance issues facing mutual fund clients.
The following are specific responsibilities of a Senior Counsel:
Responsible for keeping current with legal developments, coordinating communication of such developments to clients and proactively applying such developments to clients’ situations.
Serve as a mentor or trainer of less experienced colleagues.
Lead resolution of complex client or internal legal issues, issues with potential liability to State Street and “sticky” client service issues, and bring such issues to the attention of senior management when appropriate.
Provide practical and sound legal advice to the Fund Administration department regarding compliance with regulations and internal State Street policies.
Share expertise by writing articles for our regulatory developments publications and presenting at internal or external seminars.
Demonstrate keenly developed issue spotting skills and solve problems in a practical, effective way.
Exercise considerable sound business and legal judgment.
May support the sales process by making presentations and responding to rfps
May serve on interdepartmental committees or participate in projects relating to training, product development, and compliance with rules such as Rule 38a-1.
Be an independent self-starter that can manage client relationships from the start with a minimum of direction, supervision or training.
Possess excellent organization and time-management skills, with the flexibility to manage ever-shifting priorities for multiple clients while meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality work.
Have superior interpersonal skills and build and maintain strong and deep relationships with clients.
Have a work style geared to a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
At least 5 years of related experience
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Possess the ability to delegate assignments effectively and to utilize resources efficiently.
