TheDeputyGeneral Counsel of Insurance Operations is the principal attorney responsible for coordinating all legal resources for the insurance lines of business at Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), including Health Alliance Plan, Alliance Health and Life, HAP Midwest, HAP Preferred, and ASR. The position reports to the SVP and General Counsel of HFHS and has a matrix reporting relationship to the HAP Chief Executive Officer.
Serves as legal representative to and member of the HAP senior management team and provides legal advice to the senior team concerning strategic and operational issues.
Attends meetings and provides legal reports to the HAP Board of Directors.
Coordinates with and provides legal assistance to the HFHS Governance Office concerning corporate actions and documentation.
Ensures the HAP Campus of the HFHS Office of General Counsel supports the corporate mission, goals, objectives and priorities.
Directs the delivery and processing of legal work and research for all insurance lines of business, including internal and external legal resources.
Manages or oversees the management of all legal personnel, including support personnel, paralegals and attorneys within the HAP campus of the Office of General Counsel.
Assists and coordinates with the SVP and General Counsel onadministrativeandlegalmatters, includingtheplanning,organizingandmanagingof overall system-wide legal resources with the aim to improve overall efficiency and integration of the HFHS Office of General Counsel.
Developsthebudgetand goals for thedepartment.
Managesoutside counsel torepresent theorganizationin important litigation.
Prepares,reviews,and negotiates companycontracts,requestfor proposals andotherlegaldocuments.
Represents or coordinates the legal representation of the insurance lines of business before administrative and regulatory bodies, including the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS), Health and Human Services, CMS, Department of Labor and others.
Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited law school.
Minimumof15yearsofexperiencein amajor lawfirm, corporatelegaldepartment, or government agencywherepreviouspositionswereofadvancingresponsibilities.
Mustpossess stronginitiativeaswellasexcellentmanagement, team-work,delegationand problem-solvingabilities.
