Position Overview



This Counsel will be responsible for providing legal support to our North America teams across all commercial functions. The position is based in Beckman Coulter’s offices in Indianapolis, Indiana and will report to the Chief Counsel for Beckman Coulter Life Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a wide variety of hands-on legal work, including drafting and negotiating agreements, as well as contribute to the training and supervision of company staff administering execution of standard agreements. The Counsel will develop a good understanding of the company’s business and possess the ability to evaluate and balance both legal and business factors when providing advice.

Day-to-day responsibilities include: * Drafting and negotiating commercial sales and supply chain agreements; * Supervising the execution of standard agreements (confidential disclosure, material transfer, evaluation, professional services, supply) managed by paralegal staff; * Advising on legal relationships with customers, including terms and conditions of sale, warranties, tender processes; * Coordinating with legal colleagues and internal experts on intellectual property, regulatory, HR, and other matters; and * General day-to-day legal advice.

Qualification
Education: * JD with excellent academic credentials from an accredited law school. * Active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.

Required Skills: * 5 years of experience within a law firm and in-house, including experience with commercial sales transactions, preferably in the life sciences industry. * Demonstrated ability to lead and manage legal risks for complex commercial transactions. * Strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills. * Experience training sales staff on compliance issues. * Business oriented legal advice with demonstration of highest ethics and integrity.
