Financial Services and Payments Lawyer
In this role,you will provide general legal support to the Payments segment of The Western Union Company in Europe with a focus on the FX services and derivatives business. You will serve as a trusted business partner to management in the region and will participate as a key member of the EMEA legal team. This role will be based in London and reports directly to the Senior Counsel and global head of the FX Services and Derivatives Regulation legal team
The primary responsibilities of this role will include: advising on local regulatory requirements relating to payments, foreign exchange, and derivatives (FX forwards, NDF’s and options), counseling stakeholders on risks associated with strategic initiatives in the region, researching and monitoring laws in coordination with local counsel, supporting regulatory initiatives, and providing general legal support with respect to corporate commercial matters.
Draft, review and negotiate agreements with Western Union partners, customers, and vendors in coordination with responsible business leaders
Manage external counsel to obtain accurate, efficient and cost-effective advice for the business
Advise and support the Compliance department with respect to Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist financing, markets derivatives compliance as well as internal compliance policies and procedures;
Advise and support the Marketing department and provide legal sign-off for marketing materials; and
Work closely with Litigation, Employment, IP, and other shared functions within the General Counsel’s Office of The Western Union Company. About you
LL.B. degree from an accredited UK school of law (preferably with honors), or equivalent degree from an accredited school of law in another country.
Experience in an international law firm or legal department of a multi-national corporation (preferably engaged in the provision of financial services and/or regulation of financial services), with emphasis on payments, foreign exchange, and derivatives
Familiarity with EMIR, MiFID, the Payment Services Directive and other European financial services regulations will be considered an asset.
Experience with OTC derivative documentation including ISDA’s will be considered an asset (although not essential).
Experience in dealing directly with business clients at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization, but in counseling senior business clients.
