MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS JOB: RESPONSIBILITIES: Virtua Health, Inc. Assistant General Counsel The Office of the General Counsel of Virtua Health seeks an attorney to join the team as Assistant General Counsel with employment and labor law expertise, and who, preferably, has experience supporting healthcare providers. In this role, the successful candidate will report directly to the SVP & General Counsel, and serve as a strategic legal advisor to Virtua leaders in the organization. He/she will provide legal advice and counsel in support of a variety of areas, such as employment and labor law, physician practice acquisitions, physician contracting, patient care matters, hospital-related law, HIPAA/privacy, and litigation. The Office of the General Counsel consists of five lawyers, two paralegals, a Risk Management Team, the Corporate Privacy Officer and administrative support professionals. The Team is strategically aligned to deliver world class legal and risk management support to the organization. Attorneys are an integral part of the business units that they support and also serve as lead for certain legal subject matter areas. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Serve as lead employment and labor counsel working closely with the System s Chief Human Resources Officer and team to, among other duties, oversee all employment practice liability claims (litigation and administrative agency), handle labor arbitrations (and/or overseeing outside counsel in this area), and provide advice and counsel to managers and human resources professionals. * Provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of issues related to Virtua s hospitals and other entities with a focus on patient care matters, HIPAA/privacy, physician practice acquisitions and physician contracting issues, including related healthcare regulatory matters * As part of the role s overall litigation management, assist in providing in-house legal support to the Risk Management Team related to patient claims and medical malpractice litigation . * Work collaboratively with outside counsel while carefully managing outside counsel fees and expenses in accordance with the Department s budget program and requirements. * Establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with business leaders at all levels of the organization while providing top quality legal support. * Develop, support and maintain collaborative working relationships with other Team members. * Perform special assignments as needed. QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum 6 years relevant experience as a practicing attorney (a minimum of 4 years must be relevant law firm experience) * Undergraduate college degree * Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally recognized school of law * Must be licensed to practice in New Jersey, or can be admitted to practice as in-house counsel in New Jersey About Virtua Health Be Well.
