Asurion Staff Counsel in Nashville, Tennessee

The Legal Staff Counsel will be expected to: (i) provide employment, litigation and risk support for HR, cross-functional partners, and internal legal team members on a wide range of areas and issues.

The position will have significant interaction with business managers and outside counsel, so the candidate must possess strong judgment, collaborative problem solving skills and be quick, sharp, and confident.

_Detailed Responsibilities:_

Provide employment, litigation and risk support for HR, cross-functional partners, and internal legal team members on a wide range of areas and issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Overseeing investigations and preparation of responses to administrative charges and/or complaints filed with the DOL, EEOC, and various state and local civil rights agencies, including the supervision and management of outside counsel, as necessary.

  • Provide legal guidance and consultation to ensure enterprise-wide compliance with applicable federal, state and local labor and employment laws within domestic and international regions.

  • Assisting in developing, reviewing and revising employee policies and procedures.

  • Providing regular, clear communication of US employment law issues and opportunities to manager.

  • Keeping abreast of US employment law developments and communicating pertinent and value-added information to the HR community to ensure compliance and minimize risk.

  • Advising on sensitive terminations, performance management, investigations, and other employee matters and issues.

  • Advising on wage and hour related questions, and ensuring compliance with policies and legal requirements.

  • Assisting with diversity and inclusion efforts.

  • Assisting with employment, litigation and risk related projects, including new policy roll-outs and implementation, among other matters.

  • Managing pre-litigation and litigation matters.

  • Reviewing paralegal work product and working independently with paralegals and support staff to execute projects and processes.

  • Consistent attendance is an essential function of the job.

  • Other duties as required based on business and legal needs.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

_Minimum Requirements:_

  • JD from ABA accredited law school.

  • 2-4 years as a practicing attorney.

  • Knowledge of specialized legal areas including employment and wage and hour law required.

  • Experience in a top-tier law firm (in-house experience a plus).

  • Ability to understand and frame legal and related business issues;

  • Broad range of relevant legal experience, and the ability to identify, prioritize and resolve critical legal issues in real time;

  • Must possess sound character, excellent legal and business judgment; be self-assured, sharp, quick and able/willing to learn new areas of law;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with business colleagues, outside counsel and opposing counsel, both in the United States and other various regions of the world;

  • Strong negotiation skills;

  • Confident (but not arrogant) and able to build strong internal relationships;

  • Nimble, with the ability to prioritize, work without supervision, and manage effectively a large variety and number of matters;

  • Ability to provide creative, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced, demanding environment;

  • Legal research skills and knowledge of legal research databases (i.e., LEXIS and Westlaw)

  • Strong PC skills, including Adobe and Microsoft Outlook, Office, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with SharePoint a plus.
