Thomson Reuters Associate Editor - Labor & Employment-1 in New York, New York

Practical Law is looking for an Associate Editor to summarize collective bargaining agreements as part of its What's Market offering as well as conduct research, draft, edit, and publish a variety of content for its Labor & Employment Service.

The Associate Editor duties include :

  • Drafting and publishing short-form summaries after analyzing key provisions of collective bargaining agreements for the CBA What’s Market database, which supports the legal know-how product of the Labor & Employment Service.
  • Identifying and pulling collective bargaining agreements from the Department of Labor and other website sources.
  • Performing various update and maintenance projects on the What's Market database, including addition of links and data entry projects, as needed.
  • Working with Senior Editors to produce first drafts of labor & employment content, including practice notes, checklists, standard documents, standard clauses, and other legal content in accordance with Practical Law writing style.
  • Editing labor and employment resources to conform to Practical Law’s house style and plain English.
  • Writing, editing, and publishing legal updates on recent legal developments, highlighting their practical implications.
  • Contributing to carrying out search trawls of numerous websites and other sources using the software application WebSite-Watcher, to identify breaking legal developments, as needed.
  • Contributing to generation of weekly and monthly emails on current legal developments for Practical Law’s subscribers and trialists, as needed.
  • Maintaining and managing internal progress charts, databases, and folders.
  • Providing additional research and editorial support to Senior Editors and the Labor & Employment Service.

Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.

  • A J.D. plus one year experience or related experience in an online legal publishing company. Experience in labor and employment-related litigation and/or traditional labor or union work is a plus.
  • A passion for writing and good editing skills, including: close attention to detail; command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Strong analytical and research skills and the ability to identify key relevant information from sources.
  • Ability to work efficiently and within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent IT, administrative, organizational, and teamwork skills.
