AIG Claims, Inc. has an opportunity for a Complex Director in our Environmental department in New York. This role is responsible for the highest complexity level claims, which have moderate to higher monetary exposure to the company. This includes making coverage determinations, investigating the loss, conducting an independent assessment as to the company's exposure, participation in developing and implementing the most cost effective and timely disposition and litigation plan to ensure the claims closure via settlement or litigation. Identifies, investigates and resolves coverage issues at appropriate times. Reevaluates coverage as warranted. Promptly communicates policy coverage issues to insureds, brokers and underwriting. Makes prompt and appropriate initial contact with insured and/or broker. Gives guidance to insured and/or broker in the claims handling process to manage expectations. Within parameters of the applicable coverage, uses customer contact as an opportunity to advance the company's overall marketing efforts. Follows up diligently with customers concerning status.
Prepares and evaluates investigation strategies, which identify critical issues affecting liability, causation and damages. Appropriately considers opportunities for third party contribution. Makes independent evaluation of liability and damages. Analyzes exposures and tradeoffs between defense costs and settlement/judgment costs as new information becomes available. Makes timely and accurate potential exposure recommendations.
Develops and executes cost effective negotiation strategies. Identifies appropriate cases for ADR and structures and initiates at the best opportunity. Coordinates with Reinsurance Department to place all appropriate reinsurers on notice and responds to inquiries. Effectively tracks retentions and ensures that they are satisfied. Pursues recovery opportunities when appropriate.
Establishes routine reporting systems on case status, as well as decision-making procedures. Maintains financial control of budget and expense. Solicits timely legal opinions concerning exposures. Retains counsel when appropriate and directs their efforts efficiently. Complies with all regulatory and system requirements including state licensing, diary, accurate processing of all documentation necessary to adjust exposure, and issues payments. Maintains, documents and closes files on a timely basis. Submits accurate trial reports and exposure memos for management.
7 to 10 years experience.
Experience and capabilities with litigation and/ or claims management required.
JD, Masters or BA/BS with related experience in the environmental industry.
Excellent written/ verbal communication analytical and organization skills.
