The JPMorgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams, businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.

Description

The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase is seeking a dynamic, highly-motivated attorney with a passion for technology and innovation, a deep-seated interest in the intersection of brokerage, banking and technology law, and five to ten years of legal experience to join the Asset & Wealth Management Digital legal group. The successful candidate will become part of a team supporting the multiple lines of business that are responsible for online and mobile brokerage, banking and related products and services. Preferred location is New York, NY, but other locations with a significant Legal presence may be considered.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide legal support on a wide variety of activities, spanning multiple lines of business, senior decision-making bodies and external partners.

  • Provide technology, intellectual property, and digital specific legal advice and counsel to internal clients, sourcing professionals, other line of business attorneys in the Legal Department and various other corporate support groups such as Compliance, Controls, Risk, Audit, Human Resources, Finance, Communications, and others.

  • Partner with businesses on projects and innovations through review of business requirements, design, customer facing content, and customer communications and agreements.

  • Issue-spot, research and appropriately escalate risks and concerns that may exist with any product or service, including data privacy and security concerns.

  • Coordinate with LOB legal counsel, Compliance and Risk groups and take a lead role in escalating issues and driving them to resolution.

  • Serve as a business partner to clients and vendor management teams by advising on legal issues and risks, deal structures, approval processes, and company policies and procedures.

  • Bring an entrepreneurial sense to advising business units on new online and mobile products and services, technology transactions and partnerships, and other innovations.

  • Managing external counsel when instructed to support a particular transaction (as much of the work is done in-house as possible).

  • Be required to travel as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a true passion for businesses that are at the intersection of financial services, technology and innovation, as well as curiosity about how online and mobile technology will shape the financial services industry in the years ahead. With at least 5 - 10 years of broad experience working across the major legal aspects related to the Digital channel, he or she will demonstrate:

  • JD degree or equivalent non-US degree required.

  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.
