The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York prosecutes federal offenses and represents the United States in criminal and civil cases. The Northern District of New York is comprised of 32 counties in Upstate New York, a territory comparable to the combined area of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for Legal Assistant, Grand Jury Coordinator, and Litigation Support (LS) Specialist support in the United States Attorney's Office in Plattsburgh, NY. Typical work assignments will include:
- Providing assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, grand jury, trial preparation, and trial presentation.
- In coordination with the Systems Manager and an experienced Litigation Support Specialist, analyzing and performing automated litigation support functions.
- Assisting in the empanelment of grand juries, preparing orders and process related to the administrative aspects of the grand jurors, coordinating the scheduling of grand jury sessions, and ensuring that the grand jury room is prepared for schedule sessions.
- Performing direct assistant support services in the area of criminal and/or civil cases for assigned Assistant United States Attorneys.
- Providing day-to-day oversight of duties performed by other Legal Assistants in the Plattsburgh Branch Office on behalf of Plattsburgh Office Manager (AUSA) and/or Supervisory, AUSA.
- Providing a variety of direct clerical and administrative support assistance services to assigned AUSA staff.
- Performing general clerical/administrative functions e.g., orders supplies and equipment, processes time and attendance records, conducts property inventory, and maintains administrative files.
- Producing a variety of written documents and materials utilizing a wide range of office software applications. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
