Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property, to work at a BMS site in the Princeton, New Jersey area.

Responsibilities include IP client counseling and activities designed to enhance patent protection and clearance of BMS products, such as securing IP relating to new biological platform technologies, protein therapeutics, indications, combinations, formulations, manufacturing, and other innovations, advising on data protection and other forms of exclusivity, ensuring freedom to operate guidance is timely provided, supporting court and administrative litigation efforts, providing due diligence and transactional support, and providing a global perspective on IP matters and policy to country and regional operations.

The attorney is expected to collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish the objectives of the BMS Intellectual Property Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate preferably has 8 or more years of patent attorney experience in the biological arts, as well as an advanced degree and/or strong academic credentials in the biological sciences.

  • The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be a self-starter, energetic, positive, analytical, able to drive results, and have a proven ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

  • The successful candidate must also exhibit the highest integrity, excellent judgment, and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively communicate legal issues to patent, legal, and general management.

  • Candidates must be registered to practice before the USPTO and should be licensed to practice law in Massachusetts or be eligible to obtain a limited license for in-house counsel.
