SC Department of Public Safety Attorney I - MPF in Richland County, South Carolina

Under limited supervision, will work alongside auditors and investigators, handling all legal aspects of assigned investigations; will draft indictments, motions, legal memoranda and other paperwork. Will discuss possible criminal violations with investigators as well as review case reports. In conjunction with other states, may represent South Carolina in complex civil litigations. Prepares cases for trial and makes court appearances on behalf of the State of South Carolina. Prepares and responds to discovery requests and motions. Responds to citizen inquiries. Will perform other duties as assigned by the supervising Senior Assistant Deputy Attorney General and Chief Deputy Attorney General. Minimum and Additional Requirements: J.D. degree required. Must have completed Rule 403 requirements and be a member in good standing of the SC Bar. Experience working in a Solicitor's Office, Public Defender's Office, or as a Judge's Law Clerk preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Must have excellent research, writing, and trial skills. Must be flexible to travel. Must be able to interpret laws and apply laws in court decisions. Must be capable of preparing spreadsheets and trial exhibits using Excel, Access, Word documents or other similar software. Additional Comments: DRUG SCREENING, CREDIT CHECK, DELINQUENT TAX CHECK AND SLED BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED.
