The Senior Compliance/Commercial Attorney is responsible and accountable for all compliance matters in Korea and all commercial legal supports for Korea, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

The Senior Compliance/Commercial Attorney reports to the Head of Legal, Asia Pacific located in China.

The Senior Compliance/Commercial Attorney acts as a stakeholder and advisor working closely and collaboratively with the highest levels of management in Asia Pacific and the US and will deliver detailed, strategic and materially important advice to senior management in order to carry out the compliance program and assist business operations in delivering its strategic and operational objectives while mitigating risk to the Company.

The Senior Compliance/Commercial Attorney will work in a fast-paced environment, is detailed-oriented, independently motivated and has the confidence and ability to interact with senior members of the business in a professional, collaborative and effective manner.

The Senior Compliance/Commercial Attorney will be based in Seoul, Korea.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and mitigate compliance risks and develop appropriate compliance programs;

  • Conduct compliance-related investigations and implementing action plans to remediate identified issues;

  • Advise on day-to-day general compliance questions and questions under local civil, commercial, corporate, conflicts of interest laws and policies;

  • Create and update and/or implement compliance templates, processes, policies and procedures taking into account local legal requirements and Waters Global policies;

  • Enable and drive ethical business conduct through the effective implementation of the Integrity & Compliance program;

  • Prepare status reports of compliance activities for management review;

  • Identify the gap between local situation, legal requirements, headquarters compliance policies and provide proposals/solutions;

  • Develop annual training plan, conducting in-person compliance training;

  • Maintain and enhance channel partner compliance program to make sure every dealer and channel partner complies with all applicable laws (including FCPA) and Waters policies;

  • Conduct periodically site visits and facilitate internal and external compliance audits;

  • Support other compliance related areas, such as labor compliance, anti-trust law compliance, etc.

  • Responsible for a range of legal disciplines having implications in Asia Pacific including, but not limited to, legal operations, commercial matters and legal risk management.

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and execution of legal processes and work for the management of work undertaken in the Asia Pacific organization.

  • Proactively indentifying legal supports in the Asia Pacific organization and providing effective and innovative solutions to mitigate such risk.

  • Draft, negotiate and provide advice on material commercial agreements and counseling on operations.

  • A high quality lawyer with relevant post-qualification experience (8+ years) and experience with a major multi-national organization

  • Proven ability to establish a high degree of credibility, respect and trust at all levels

  • Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with a wide range of people

  • Effective planning and organizing skills to prioritize key areas of responsibility, tasks and projects in a high pressure environment

  • Strong team player who is both committed and flexible

  • Comfortable with both tactical and strategic aspects of the role

  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Asia Pacific region

  • English fluency, with local language abilities
