Pierce County Human Resources Land Use/Environmental Law Attorney (Court Attorney 3) in Tacoma, Washington

This position performs highly complex professional legal work as a Deputy Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney in the Civil Division, acting as a legal representative for the Planning and Public Works Department, Parks Department, and other clients/projects as assigned. Duties include litigation defending the County's land use decisions in judicial and administrative hearings, including all phases of these proceedings. This position is also responsible for nuisance abatement and enforcing the County Code in state court. The attorney may also provide legal counsel to assigned clients and departments on a transactional and advisory basis in matters that include land use planning, permitting, zoning, growth management, public records, shoreline management, and environmental laws. An attorney in this classification exercises independent judgment, initiative and resourcefulness in analyzing complex situations and providing legal advice regarding a course of action. Duties are performed with professional discretion and within office guidelines, professional ethics and standards, and legal requirements. This is an exempt, represented position.
