CACI International Paralegal, Cyber Unit - Washington, D.C. in Washington, District Of Columbia
Work is performed under close supervision, with required assistance readily available in the Cyber Unit.
· Assist Assistant United States Attorneys with drafting, formatting, and editing of legal documents (mainly applications and non-disclosures), generating search warrants packets and subpoenas, and electronic filings for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia
· Work with the Office of International Affairs’ (OIA) Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) on responding to international investigative requests and serving internet service providers to assist in criminal investigations regarding cyber-crimes including hacking, fraud, child pornography, and terrorist threats
· Coordinate with the FBI and Judges’ Chambers to schedule search warrant presentments
· Assign and follow up on MLAT requests and search warrants, forward production/ returns to correct parties
RESPONSIBILITIES/Duties. Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor. Performs the following tasks while complying with established procedures: compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. Prepares exhibit cross-references. Assists attorneys in courtroom. Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
Qualifications. Requires paralegal certificate. An equivalent level of legal training may be substituted with the approval of the COR. At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required; trial experience very helpful. Automated litigation support experience valued. Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems. Role also requires basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources. Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.
Consults prescribed sources of information for facts relating to matters of interest to the program; Reviews documents to extract selected data and information relating to specific items;Reviews and summarizes information in prescribed format on case precedent and decisions; Searches and extracts legal references in libraries and computer-data banks; Attends hearings or court appearances to become informed on administrative and/or court procedures and the status of cases, and where necessary, assists in the presentation of charts and other visual information.
