SBU R&D Patent Liaison - 44864 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The patent liaison reports to the SBU head of R&D and has dotted line reporting/liaison responsibilities to the respective patent lawyer who has responsibility for that SBU. Patent liaison serves as a technical expert on the respective platforms within the SBU - drawing on other resources within the R&D team as necessary for technical expertise on platforms. Patent liaison is a true liaison between the centralized corporate patent lawyers and the SBU R&D team. Responsibilities of the role: 1. Follow all R&D efforts including long-term business strategies for R&D. 2. Meet regularly with a corporate patent attorney to review on-going R&D projects and to discuss patentability (strategize new patent applications). 1. Continually monitor SBU products and patent portfolio (landscaping); drive patent marking as required. 2. Continually monitor of competitor products and patents (landscaping). 3. Provide early patent searches for new R&D projects; provide regular updates to corporate patent attorney. 4. Communicates back with SBU R&D team regarding anticipated risks with any new product introductions due to competitive patents 5. Works with SBU R&D team on development activities to ensure patent landscaping is taken into account The patent liaison will need to have the required technical background to understand, follow and interpret R&D projects and patents. This will require a technical, science or engineering degree in a subject pertinent to the R&D efforts of a given SBU (chemical, mechanical, electrical, etc.).
