Job Summary

AECOM’s in-house legal team has an opportunity for dedicated professional to provide support to a diverse portfolio of internal clients, focusing on monitoring at-risk projects and assisting delivery teams. Your partnership will span all business lines and regions, including AECOM operations throughout Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia and will see you supporting stakeholders from a range of different businesses and backgrounds.

This role will see you working as part of a small and highly dedicated international legal team. The role can be based in any major Australian city, reporting directly to the Corporate Vice President for Legal Risk in London, UK.

As part of this role, your duties will include:

  • Identifying and monitoring projects that are at-risk of delivery and commercial issues

  • Assisting and guiding the Project Delivery Teams on commercial and contractual issues

  • Drafting and/or reviewing claims and key correspondence

  • Reporting on the progress and status of claims to local leadership, corporate and external insurers.

  • Preparing strategy papers and monitoring compliance against them

  • Reviewing and advising upon contracts

  • Preparing summaries and guidance notes to project teams

  • Regular update calls with live projects under review

  • Ensuring paperwork and evidence is in order to be able to pursue and defend claims

  • Working closely and within the Litigation team to manage external counsel and implementing any guidance and advise given

  • Support and close management of external legal advisors to ensure value for money and optimal advice are received. Assist with the on-going implementation of corporate initiatives, including ethics and compliance programs and devising local policy and procedure.

  • Undertake risk and compliance training of staff and helping research and prepare guidance notes for the business on legal and risk issues, including compliance initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified projects/ litigation solicitor or barrister;

  • Demonstrated post-qualification legal experience including minimum 5 years’ construction litigation experience in a Law firm;

  • Good working knowledge of construction contracts including FIDIC, NEC and standard professional appointments;

  • Good working knowledge of civil and arbitration procedures;

  • Previous experience working for a multinational organization in the engineering, construction or similar sector helpful but not compulsory;

  • Detailed understanding of principles of construction claims and legislation relevant to construction and engineering.

Your capacity to multi-task and work under pressure with multiple, strict deadlines, along with your strong communication and presentation skills will enable your success in this role
