Role Mission

To deliver new revenues (new customers, greater share of wallet, higher prices) from global product concepts, within the next 3 years and beyond 3 years.

To generate and accelerate the development of a portfolio of innovation ideas around themes identified by the Legal & Regulatory (L&R) Digital Products Steering Committee to the point where these ideas can be developed into products that are capable of meeting the revenue challenge of the Legal and Regulatory Division Vision and Strategy Plan.

To evaluate multiple initiatives/ approaches/ partnerships within LR and to make recommendations to the LR CEO and the LR Digital Products Steering Committee on which option(s) should be taken forward as the LR global approach.

To be the focal point for LR innovation queries for LR country CEOs and GPO.

To lead a permanent, full-time innovation team comprising Innovation Team Managers and Innovation Team Members in each country of LR. To work effectively and sensitively with country leaders to set up these teams.

To coordinate a network of local innovation representatives in order to share innovation ideas across LR.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

? Work as part of the LR leadership team, taking LR Division objectives as the first priority

? Manage Innovation Team Manager and Innovation Team Members' performance in conjunction with HR where appropriate

? Allocate resources and budget to prioritized initiatives having regard to the highest revenue potential

? Manage project plans, business cases, prototyping and market testing

? Engage with LR Head of Global Product Development to identity at the earliest possible stage where prioritized initiatives are most likely to translate into high revenue generating digital products

? Provide regular updates and progress reports to the LR CEO and LR Digital Products Steering Committee

? Scout and analyze external innovation stemming from suppliers, customers, competition, industry events and networking with internal / external stakeholders having regard to anticipated customer needs

? Ensure accurate financial reporting on prioritized initiatives (budget/time/quality)

? Work with LR Head of Global Product Development, Steering Committee and country CEOs to identify and prioritize the next phase of cross country digital innovation

? Co-ordinate country innovation representatives to ensure that same innovation themes are not duplicated at divisional and country level

? Engage with GPO Head of Innovation/UX to identify early promising trends from across industry sectors which could be adopted commercially by LR

? Work with GPO to identify where appropriate third-party providers and applications, evaluate feasibility, desirability and viability of third-party applications in potential product offerings

? Provide input to M&A process and support integration of technologies arising from M&As

? Continuously improve the interface to Global Digital Product Development and countries product development teams and hand over innovative technologies suited for product development in agreed formats, times and qualities

? Exchange information with Wolters Kluwer's other divisions' innovation departments for identifying promising technological trends and potential collaboration

? Resolve routine operating problems as they arise; prioritize, organize, distribute, and coordinate the flow of work; train, guide, and advise staff; ensure that prescribed policies, procedures, and schedules are followed.

? Adopt a flexible attitude and assist with occasional special projects when required

Travel Requirements

Will be based in US with regular travel in Europe and in the US and occasional other international travel

This position can be remote from anywhere in the US


Minimum: Engineering, law or marketing qualification

Preferred: Vocational training in innovation and product development, including WK's Lean/ Agile or similar. Master with specialization in Innovation.

Skills and Experience:

? Senior management experience with a track record in innovation (within WK or beyond)

? Innovation experience preferably from digital/ software sectors

? Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan and complete work on tight deadlines and budgets; ability to work in an environment of multiple priorities

? People management across remote geographical locations

? Sufficient understanding of technologies and products currently provided to legal markets

? Strong knowledge of market trends and new technologies including artificial intelligence (machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing etc.)

? Knowledge of existing GPO assets (internal candidates only)

? Deep experience of Lean/ Agile methodologies or similar

? Ability to manage, persuade and influence stakeholders at all levels, irrespective of reporting lines, especially ability to stand up to senior P & L owners and argue own case
