JOB TITLE: Director, Law ProductJOB SUMMARY:This position is as part of a legal team supporting the Video Product groupthat creates, provides and oversees the Company s video service offerings,including technologies such as DVR to residential and commercial customers.This job requires an understanding of, and the ability to negotiate,highly complex technology transactions, involving distribution of contentover multiple platforms and Apps; and intellectual property rights.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance thecustomer experience- Advise members of the Product team on the wide array of legal issues thatarise in connection with the creation, development and offering of theCompany s video and broadband services- Collaborate closely and effectively with the content acquisition team andthe lawyers that support that team to align the Company s product initiativeswith the contractual parameters of those content acquisition deals- Work closely with the Company s Regulatory attorneys to ensure that thevarious service offerings and contract negotiations comply with the wide arrayof regulations that apply to our video and broadband products and services- Negotiate, highly complex technology transactions, involvingdistribution of content over multiple platforms and Apps; multi-partysoftware licensing; software and App development; and intellectualproperty rig- Assess legal risks of existing and new video and broadband products andservices. Advise business executives on strategies to mitigate and/or reducesuch risks- Understand the lawyer s role within the decision-making process. Demonstratethe ability to work within that role to build consensus with businessexecutives- Negotiate and draft complex, commercial agreements- Coordinate and manage outside counsel as required, including managinglegal budgets for outside counsel- Advise Product team and other business units regarding the application ofvideo and broadband regulations to the Company s products and services- Work with Government Affairs, other teams within PPR-Legal, andappropriate business units to provide comments and other input (eitherdirectly or through industry groups such as NCTA) at the FCC and otherfederal and state regulatory agencies and governmental bodies on proceedingsin which regulations impacting the Company s video and broadband businessesare proposed- Advise on legal strategies in such proceedings (including possiblelitigation) to protect the company s interests- Work with the SVP Litigation to manage litigation related to video andbroadband regulations- Work with Government Affairs and the VP Law, Policy to develop long-termregulatory strategy with respect to video and broadband regulations- Perform other duties as requiredREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Skills / Abilities and KnowledgeStrong legal reasoning and drafting skillsAbility to make decisions and creatively solve problems while working underpressureAbility to manage multiple projects at one time and shift gears as prioritieschangeAbility to communicate complicated legal issues concisely to businessexecutivesAbility to work well with a team, including cross-functionallyEducationJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; top tier law schoolpreferredAdmission to State Bar in which Attorney practicesRelated Work Experience5+ years of relevant experience as a lawyer within a top-tier law firm or inhouse in the cable or similar industry is requiredWORKING CONDITIONSOffice environmentThe Spectrum brand is powered and innovated by Charter Communications.Charter Communications reaffirms its commitment to providing equalopportunities for employment and advancement to qualified employees andapplicants.
