Corporate Counsel- Litigation
Provide legal advice to H&R Block, Inc. and its subsidiaries on a variety of legal issues, primarily in the area of litigation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate with VP, Deputy General Counsel and other members of the Legal Department to advise the Company on a variety of legal matters, primarily in the area of litigation.
Resolve various legal issues by litigating or negotiating conclusions, or by otherwise responding to regulatory and other inquiries, complaints and disputes.
Prepare legal positions by researching issues and reviewing documents.
Achieve legal objectives by gathering pertinent information, identifying and evaluating options and choosing a course of action.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and/or participating in professional societies.
Contribute to team effort by timely meeting commitments and working smart with minimal supervision.
Effectively manage outside counsel.
Other duties as assigned.
Some travel is required to attend out of town depositions, hearings, trials or meetings.
Juris Doctorate degree plus license to practice law in one or more states. Have passed or willing to apply for Missouri Bar.
At least five years of experience in the practice of law with an emphasis on litigation.
Legal research skills.
Detail-oriented with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong presentation skills necessary to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
Effective negotiation skills.
Understanding and previous use of a Windows-based computer system with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to navigate on the Internet.
- Experience handling a broad range of litigation and eDiscovery matters.
