Salary Range:

Agency Attorney III (OA): $83,283 - $106,911 Agency Attorney II (OA): $74,707 - $97,354 Agency Attorney I (OA): $66,135 - $87,798


Agency Attorney I-III:

The Agency Attorney will be responsible for defending tort cases from inception through trial. The Agency Attorney will be required to prepare pleadings, draft motions, respond to discovery requests, attend court conferences, argue motions, interview experts and witnesses, perform on-site inspections, conduct depositions, and analyze legal and factual issues. The Agency Attorney will also develop trial strategies, review expert reports and medical records, obtain subpoenaed records, develop direct and cross-examination questions, try Supreme and Civil Court cases, and negotiate settlements.

Education and Experience

Agency Attorney I:

Admission to the New York State Bar and either one year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any State Bar, or six (6) months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Intern.

Agency Attorney Level II:

In addition to the above, Agency Attorney Level II requirements include one year of experience at Assignment Level I, or two (2) years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Agency Attorney Level III:

In addition to the above, Agency Attorney Level III must have two (2) years of experience assignment levels I and II, or three (3) years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Desired Skills

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent oral, written communication and research skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows, Lexis Nexis and WestLaw.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and judgment skills, the ability and the desire to solve complex legal problems.

Selection Method

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

Appointment may be at comparable level to current level of selected candidate
