Oakland County Corporation Counsel Litigator in Waterford, Michigan

Under limited direction, represents Oakland County in complex civil suits before state and federal court, and administrative and quasi-judicial tribunals. Acts as a litigator in lawsuits against the County in areas of negligence, personnel and employment matters, breach of contracts, drain issues, violation of civil rights and malicious prosecution. Acts as legal counsel for County administrators and elected officials, involving the review of legal documents, legal research and writing, and trial work. Represents the County and its elected and appointed officials in civil law, property, and taxation matters. Defends the County and its elected officials, employees, and agents in disputed claims or civil suits. Develops and prosecutes complex cases initiated by the County and/or defends the County against civil suits brought against it. May be required to coordinate and monitor the progress of litigation brought against the County which is handled by outside counsel. May also work with outside counsel in developing strategies and theories of defense, and ensures that County policies and procedures are maintained. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
